The Dometic 8505 fridge freezer in my motorhome developed a problem the symptoms of which were that particularly when working on a 230V supply there was inadequate cooling in both the freezer and refrigerator compartments. The cooling was improved when working on a propane gas supply but performance was still not as it should be.I took the vehicle to a repair company who diagnosed the problem as being a faulty 230V heating element, this diagnosis was made without what I would describe as a thorough investigation, certainly no voltage or current testing was done. Lacking confidence in this diagnosis I elected not to let the company proceed with the repair and I decided to try to find someone else to look at it.After much investigation I found A19 Caravans in Seaham and determined that this company were authorised Dometic repair agents so I got in touch, even though significant travel was involved to get there.I dealt with Les Mackel at A19 who tested the fridge freezer extensively, he checked the 230V element against the unit specification and this showed that the element was not in fact the problem, I was relieved that I had not gone ahead with the previous company I had been dealing with.The problem was traced to the fridge-freezer cooling unit which needed to be replaced. The parts were duly ordered (from Germany) and they arrived within about 7 days. At my second visit the parts were duly fitted and I now have a perfectly functioning unit.I found the staff at A19 Caravans helpful, pleasant, professional and efficient and above all the problem I had has been resolved which, in the end, is what really matters. Les himself has a dry sense of humour and some might find him a little gruff, I personally like this, I like people who get to the bottom of things, get on with the job in hand without a load of flannel and above all fix the problem, which he did. The bottom line is that Les succeeded where others had failed.I have no hesitation in recommending A19 Caravans and I would definitely use their services again when the need arises.Five stars.
